主題一：家庭背景
*Model Paragraph 1
My name is Yu-hua Lin. I was born on August 1, 1985. There are five people in my family. My father is a business man who has run a restaurant for decades. My mother is his best assistant and at the same time a most capable and loving woman in the world. I have one brother and one sister; both of them are junior high school students. We live in a small but comfortable house in Pintung City . On the whole, we are a very happy family. We like to share a lot of interesting things at dinner and to take trips on holidays.

I am Yen-Ping Wen. My English name is Hilary. I was born in Pingtung and have lived here for eighteen years. I grow up in warm family of four members. My father is a professional soldier. He is a man of his duty and he loves his job very much. My mother is a housewife, who always makes sure we are under great care in a neat and comfortable home. My younger sister is a third grader of junior high school, and the two of us like to share all of the joy and hardship of girlhood. As for me, I am a sincere and diligent girl studying in National Pingtung Girls’ Senior High School. This is my family, simple but lovely. My family members are my biggest support and they are the people that I love most dearly.

I am Chou Chi-Chan, and my friends call me ‘Da-tou’. I was born and have lived in Pingtung for eighteen years. I love my hometown dearly and fully identify with its culture. My family is composed of seven people. My father works in a factory that produces spare parts. He is serious on work, but he is actually a humorous person. My mother’s job is “washing trains,” which is laborious, but she still takes good care of us. My parents’ sincere attitude toward others has a great influence on me. They make good role models. I have two younger brothers; sometimes we share things happening in school and they often tell me funny jokes to make me laugh. Also, we are lucky to have grandparents live with us, and I have learned wisdom not taught in school from them.

*Model Paragraph 1
I am optimistic by nature. Even when I came across setbacks, I would tell myself：“It’s just a small trouble in my life. I should solve it, and then keep going on.” I had a sorrowful experience before: one of my good friends mistook me because of another’s slander of me. At first, I was sad, but I thought about it for a long time, and then I came to a conclusion: a friend in need is a friend indeed, and maybe she is just not the one. I did not and I will not get even with the liar. The most valuable lesson I learned is that “truth is not necessarily what one sees.” This experience made me even more interested in observation, contemplation, and finally, truths about life.

Working hard is one of my good points. I not work hard with my schoolwork but also actively participated in extracurricular activities. Besides, I try to make the most of my time to do something beneficial to our society, like volunteering in a hospital. It is my belief that the more efforts I make, the more likely I will fully use develop my potential and contribute myself to society..

When I was in the second grade of junior high school, I experienced a great change. At that time I did very well in my studies but I was timid and introverted. But then I was chosen to participate n the school speech contest. I was worried and nervous to death and wanted to give up. Seeing my trouble, my homeroom teacher said to me, “Just do your best. Pluck up your courage and say what you want to say. And never give up.” With her encouragement, I mad a good speech . After that, I overcame my timidity and shyness and I did everything as best as I could. Until now, these words have become the creed I live by: “Do your best and never give up.”

My parents have a great influence on me. They play a very important role in the process of forming my character. My parents’ decent behavior teachers me how to conduct myself well. I follow their examples, so my dealing(待人接物) is honest and fair. Also, my parents often instill healthy ideas about life in me. Thanks to their guidance, I have a correct attitude toward my life, and I can look at things in perspective.(客觀看待事物)

主題三：嗜好、休閒活動

My parents always put emphasis on the balance between learning and relaxation; therefore, since my childhood, I have cultivated various hobbies and pastimes. For instance, I like to play the electronic organ in my free time. Whenever I feel depressed, the beautiful melody will be able to comfort me and cheer me up. I am also fond of swimming and playing table tennis. As a table tennis club member, I am a skilled player. Music and sports definitely help me maintain good mental and physical health.

In addition to doing my utmost on schoolwork, I take exercise regularly to stay healthy. Almost every day after school, I like to jog or play badminton with classmates. In hot summer, we even go swimming. Besides, going mountain climbing would be my favorite activity on holidays. Through approaching nature, I will be relaxed and soothes by the beauty of it. Cooking for my family is another thing I like to do when I have free time. By doing so, I can share the burden of my mother, and at the same time, I learn skills about life, too.

My favorite hobby is reading. It not only provides me with useful information, but it also gives me so much pleasure. By reading I am able to enter another world where I can travel to any period of time and to any place and forget my daily cares. I enjoy reading of many kinds. Besides studying my textbooks at school to pass my exams, I also read for pleasure, gaining additional knowledge I would not learn at school. I like reading novels, adventure stories, travel books, and articles in newspaper and magazines. To tell the truth, reading brings joys and adds more flavors to my tiring and dull school life.

My favorite recreational activity is working with the computer. Whenever I turn on my computer, I feel my self in a great mood and forget all my trouble. I always play computer games and chat with people on the Internet. In addition, I am also persuaded that the computer world is worth studying in many ways. I have learned lots of knowledge about computer and various kinds of useful software programs. Besides, I can also expose myself to the latest information through the Internet. To sum up, I consider my favorite activity both entertaining and informing, and I will continue to explore the computer technology.

I treasure my school life very much. Though I am not a top student in terms of school grades, I am good at many fields and consider myself a devoted and enthusiastic learner. Among the school subjects, I love English best and surely do pretty well in English learning. I participated in several English speech and composition contests and won very good prizes. Also, I have been active in school camps, including those held by universities, and different kinds of workshops. I believe that extracurricular activities provide valuable opportunities for me to accumulate knowledge and broaden my horizon. I learn important interpersonal skills from these special experiences as well.

Looking back on my senior high school days, I feel I have learned a lot of things, including all aspects of knowledge, how to get along with others, and how to take good care of my health. I take many subjects and absorb lots of knowledge from the textbooks and extracurricular materials I read. Therefore, I can deal with mot of the problems in my daily life and make myself a well-informed student. And because I have taken part in lots of class and club activities, I have learned how to cooperate with fellow students. I consider myself responsible in performing my duties, and I am always happy to be able to help others. Lastly, I know the importance of a balanced life, so I take exercise regularly . Going jogging or playing basketball with my friends has been my favorite recreational activity. To sum up, I really enjoy my senior high school life.

English is my favorite subject in school. In fact, I didn’t develop English fondness in my childhood like other children. I started learning it when I graduated from elementary school, but I have found it interesting ever since. Although there is a “Taiwanese accent” when I speak English before, I just practice and practice with no thoughts of giving it up. And now my English teacher said that I’ve made great progress. Owing to my passion for English, I have the greatest pleasure and patience in learning English. Sometimes I talk in English with classmates; while our English conversations are often out of logic, we still have great delight in it; going to Bible classes with some friends is also fun. In this way, we believe that we would be brave enough to speak out. Moreover, I enjoy reading English literary works such as The Secret Garden , The Sound of Music, The Diary of Anne Frank, and The Sound of Music. The insights into human nature and the beauty of language are the part appeal to me most.

主題五：選系動機
*會計
I took great interest in mathematics when I was a child. My grade in math at all school levels was always better than those in other subjects. So I think it a good choice for me to major in accounting. It is my belief that an accountant plays an important part in society. For an industry to be prosperous, a sound accounting system is indispensable. I hope the professional training in university we prepare me to be a good accountant.

*國際貿易
I want to take international trading as my major. In view of the fact that Taiwan is an island country with limited natural resources but abundance of man-power, our country must depend on export and import, if we are to progress and prosper. I take great interest in international affairs and economic activities, hoping four years’ training in university will provide me with the qualifications of being a specialist in the field of international trade.

*教育
I would like to major in education and be a teacher in the future. In my opinion, the work of a teacher is not dull at all. A good teacher has to be sensitive to the reactions of each student and to convey points in an interesting and effective way. Furthermore, happiness is the next thing teaching can offer. It is extremely delightful to see students improve themselves in the fields of knowledge and of personality. Besides, as a saying goes, “to teach is to learn twice,” in the process of teaching and helping students solve problems, teachers improve themselves too. For these reason, I have made up my mind to learn how to be a good teacher.

*應用外語
When it was time for me to decide my major, to be frankly, I had a hard time making a decision. Finally, I decided to major in Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics, a field I am not so familiar with. That’s because after long contemplation, I finally determined to become a professional translator in an international company. To fulfill this dream, I need related training and cultivation. I learned that the curriculum of Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics is exactly what I need if I want to be a competent translator with solid commercial background. With the support from my family, I am looking forward do having solid professional training in college.
