dividing "nightmare" into two words ---> night and mare(a female horse)

I don't understand Riddle 2. Why the answer is A Nightmare?

the answer from the book---->天真的小孩很可愛. cunning is " 狡滑的" ,"靈巧的".but 在美國口語中也作"可愛的","乖巧的".說一個天真的小孩既天真又狡猾,前後矛頓.
