Yes, it is an idiomatic expression meaning there is no reason why something strange had happened. An example is … ”I don’t know what makes that SOB behave like that. There’s no rhyme or reason to it.”

The word that comes to mind is "right". Kathy, you were "right" in telling me that old fools don't change their ways easily, I tried to ignore them but they keep coming back like a bad habit. I will take your advice of "have nothing to do with them, just let them be", thanks Kathy.
