IMHO, "brew tea" and "make tea" look the same to me.

There are other ways to explain brew tea and make tea from online friends. For your reference:

Brioche

When you make tea in the proper way, you put tea leaves in a pot, pour water over the leaves, and wait for the tea to infuse, steep or brew.

Some people regard the whole process as "brewing the tea"; some say that the infusing is the brewing.

In some places it is common for people to say "brew" for "tea".
Would you like a brew?
I think it is time for a brew.

Franglais Maestro

Brioche is right and, oddly enough, brew is common in Australia and Yorkshire, whereas in middle England it would seem odd.
There are some class connotations here. "Higher" classes make tea, whilst "lower" classes brew it.
Time for a brew is fine in Adelaide and Leeds, but might be frowned upon in Knightsbridge.
In Derbyshire they mash the tea !

I am a chronic tea drinker. Making tea implies brewing to me. "Brew tea" is a little bit more specific than "make tea." Using either will get your point across.

twen

Not a big tea drinker, but here's my contribution:

If I heat a mug filled with water in the microwave and then dunk a teabag in the hot water, I made tea.

If I put teabags in a teapot and pour hot water over them, I brewed tea. There's something more intentional in the term "brewed," though both are perfectly clear.

coleridge

Also... in America, the "high class" person is more apt to say "brew" tea than "make" tea, as opposed to Franglais Maestro's observation concerning England. Yes, loose tea leaves would be brewed, more than tea bags. I think the difference here is more with the form of the tea than how the water is heated. Even though, technically, both bags and loose tea are "brewed". But there may be local differences within the US also.

In the U.S., "brew" commonly refers to a beer if no other context is provided.
