在英文的所有子音的發音中，有些音和其他的音剛好有一些對應的關係。
有些音的發音位置與基本發音方式和特色是相同的，唯一的差別是一個是無聲子音而另一個則是有聲子音。 這就是說某些子音有無聲和有聲的對應關係，也就是成對的對應關係。 以下就列出英文發音中的各種對應。 /p b/ pig, big /t d/ tip, dip /k g/ came, game /f v/ feel, veal /s z/ see, zee /θ ð/ this, that /ʃ ʒ/ dish, vision /ʧ ʤ/ chest, jest 在上面列示中，在左邊的都是無聲子音，在右邊的則是相對的有聲子音。也就是說它們的發音位置相同，只有在發音方式一個沒有震動聲帶，另一個則有震動聲帶。各位可以針對每一對子音反覆做發音練習，辨別有聲無聲的別。後面五組的發音可以不帶母音就發出。 Tim
