Reading a short story I got to a section in which I bump into some phenomena I am not sure of... Could you folks check my translation?
(The story takes place during the Japanese war, a deadbeat, starving group of soldiers is wandering in the mountains.)

有块光滑的石头蹲伏在路边,这可以当凳坐,一个同伴坐了上去。
  “啊!烫得无法坐!”“还是走吧。”
  也只有走的一法。

There were shining stones along the road crouching, they could be used as a bench, a fellow sat down on one.
'Gosh! It's burning (so much) you can't sit on it! We'd better go on.'
Yes, we had no other option but to go on.

Actually it is this last sentence which is not clear. I am quite sure it means more or less this, but I have not seen such a structure before.

The last sentence is...odd.
Who wrote the short story?

I briefly read through the story and noticed many sentences with wrong grammatical structure. I hope it's not written by a native Chinese.

He/she must be a native speaker...
I read very slowly in Mandarin, so I am only at the half of it, but, telling the truth, I had a good impression about the language usage in this story... (I mean compering to others on a site like this.)
My observation is that the word order is not as strict in literature texts as in grammar books....

Anyway, how would you say correctly that "也只有走的一法"?...

There can be many ways to express that phrase, so I would not say which is correct.

For e.g. "大伙儿只好继续上路/继续前进" (Everyone just have to keep on moving) or "继续走下去才是唯一的办法" (Continue walking is the only option)

On a personal note, I find that sentence redundant. Not necessary to reinforce that walking is the only option, since they chose to move on in the previous conversation.

I expected more from the author if he/she is native Chinese as their command of the language should be much higher than someone who studied Chinese as a second language (like me).

I'm not very impressed with the author's writing, but I should not expect that everyone can write like a professional.

Ok, this is exactly what I meant! I meant I meant I wondered how to express it correctly, so any correct variant is great! Thank you!

As for what is necessary and what is not: unfortunately as I still can not read "fluently" Hanzis, I simply can't judge this part. But as I myself write, I have an opinion - namely: each writing has got an "inner" or "private" system of rules, and each detail can be judged only relative to the whole - in writing schools simplification is overemphasized...
(I am not defending this short story, this is just a general remark.)

Well, I don't know if these authors are paid or not... Stories on a site like that are edited, that is for sure. I think 故事会's level is higher than of that of English language amateur sites'.)
(Actually - unfortunately - a couple of the greatest writers were not "professionals", that is so sad, see Kafka or Proust...)

So Chinese (Mandarin) isn't even your mother tongue... Impressive!

Haha I'm Chinese (not from China though). Chinese is considered my mother tongue, but English is taught as a first language.

Ha-ha, you recalled a film...
It is about a yakuza who flees to the U.S.A. In this scene he turns in a restaurant somewhere in an American desert, and happened to be being served by a second or third generation American Japanese. (I refer only to the first minute of it though, ha-ha...)

You are linguistically inscrutable too, but I like mysteries.

Haha I saw how I fitted into that scenario, but in reality I'm at somewhere where Chinese is the majority population. Not trying to be mysterious. Haha!
