how跟what的問題

有ㄧ題是這樣

American architect focus on buildings that provide multiple uses and functions, and focus less on how the building looks like.

這是改錯題，劃線的部份書裡說這是錯的，應改為what

所以我想請問一下為何不能用how呢？
