AIM said Connection Lost

people
anyone might know what im facing right now?

i've installed aim both version 5.8 and 6.0/1
and it said "check your interenet connection"
some firewall or proxy something, i have no idea what it said really. i've been shuting down the firewall since i got this computer, i tried to switch it back and sign in the aim, still ain't work.

so..... anyone please tell me how i solve this problem?

ps. im staying in dorm (related to the dorm network maybe?)
