PSP Software Update Problem?

I tried to update my psp so it would work with Media Go, followed the instructions on the official site and when I tried to open it from game>>memory stick like they said it said 'This game cannot be started'. I'm getting a little frustrated since I had trouble with it from the beginning because apparently I'm stupid. My PSP is sort of old, I got it when they first came out and the software on it now is 2.60 if that helps.
