A hidden agenda

This idiom refers to the things that you secretly intend to achieve from a plan or action, although you pretend that you are doing it for another reason.


Holland refused to sign the treaty, fearing that de Gaulle had a hidden agenda.

Bernie was a very straighforward guy without any hidden agendas. He just wanted to do a good job, and people in his district liked him.
