some more info:

a) "zoned or zoned out"
= intoxicated with narcotics;
= high
[adj. or adj. phrase in the 1960s, influenced by "spaced out"]

b) "zone (something) out"
= to omit from consciousness;
= shut out of the mind
(e.g.) I can just zone everything out and keep going.
