Bulletin Board （佈告欄）:: chatroom
SoutheLily,

My previous post was not intended for those old regular chatters who are the frequent visitors to the chat room. (From what I have seen, the size of regular chatters here is fairly small.) I was referring to those members who are wanting to improve their oral language but somehow seem to be shy away from the chat room.

I used to visit another chat room operated by a so called English learning social site in Taiwan. In fact, that was where I met Wolfy online. I used to volunteer to help out in the chat room all the time to facilitate the discussions with specific topics. Speaking from my experience, a chat room would definitely flourish if the members feel that they have been encouraged to participate. Many of us from that site later became good friends. In fact, I wrote the book with three of them without even meeting them in person. Unfortunately, that site was sold and the administration changed. We ended up leaving there.

Members come and go, but only the ones who feel "at home" would stay. So "the regulars" can actually make a difference to make the newcomers feel at home in the chat room, a non-threatening environment to learn.

Wolfy,

Reading your post is like reading my last few entries posted at the other English site where we met. Whenever I come to this place, I don't see anybody in the room. The only member I encounter once in a while is 123. It might be a good idea for someone to set up regular scheduled discussions at a specific time if you want to encourage the new chatters to join in. I remember we used to have discussion groups organized by Eason and facilitated by us as well as those concerts hosted by people we know.

J1492

No wonder our comments did not show up.

My question is why you have to approve all the comments for the other members.

I know your concern and it is important to moderate the comments. However, it is impossible if you have more than a handful of members posting messages every day. You simply do not have the manpower nor ability to handle the moderation if there are hundreds of blog articles being posted.

Why don't you leave that moderation power to the authors themselves? It makes more sense for me to moderate those comments left for me regarding the article I posted, doesn't it? I definitely do not welcome any nasty message geared toward me after my posting, but at least it is up to me, who wrote the article, to make that decision.

I really appreciate that you set up this platform, and I am so happy to discover your web site. I just want it to become more user-friendly.

Julia1492

P.S. BTW, if you don't delay posting moderated messages for the forum, the chatroom, the photos, nor the shoutbox, why do you only do that for the blogs? That does not make sense to me. :)) Thanks.

This system is composed of different modules and the Wordpress module is a very old one with only quite limited options available. There does not seem to have an option for each blog owner to apporove comments made to their articles. This is also why I started the LifeType Blog as it has way more functions.

Tim

Dear All,

I have added a new function that allows you to look up words from OKEnglish. It's a search box provided by Longman Dictionaries Online. The new search box is on the top of the right hand side. After you type in your search, a new window will pop up and redirect you to LDOCE Online.

Tim

Bulletin Board （佈告欄）:: New favicon and pps support added
Dear All,

I have made a new favicon.ico file so you will see a small icon before the url in your browser. Besides that, I have also reconfigured the server to support PowerPoint files directly. This means you can open or save PowerPoint files directly from now on.

Tim
