"each"和"every"都有"每个"的意思，但它们在用法上有所不同:

1) "each"着重于个别的含义。"every"着重于全体的含义，和"all"的意思相近。
e.g. Each student has an English book. 每个学生都有一本英语书。
e.g. Every student must study well. 每个学生都必须好好学习。

[Note] 第二个例句中的every student相当于all the students.

2)"each"可以用来指两或两个以上的人或东西，但"every"却总是三个以上的人或东西，不能指两个。

[误]：There are many shops on every side of the street.

3) "every"只能用作定语，"each"不仅可以作定语，而且能像名词一样作主语、宾语和同位语。

试译：每个人都有自己的名字。
[误]：Every has his own name.
