Campus Visits and Questions You Should Ask

Once you have decided on the schools you wish to apply to, it is now time to consider visiting these schools if at all possible. You can gather a lot of good information from a school, your counselor at high school, people you know that have gone to that school, the internet and your personal educational consultant but the best way to know what schools are really like, you should take the time to visit them if it is possible.

What You Should Do?

You should try to set up appointments with members of the campus staff. Try to arrange a meeting with people who are within the field of study you wish to major in. You must try to visit with admissions officers so that you can discuss what the schools requirements are, and deadlines for your applications, also ask if they have any written information including courses. If you can have a tour of the campus with a student who can show you everything there is to know about the school. Go to the library, dinning areas to meet and talk with students if possible.

What to Look For:

• Check out classrooms.
• Check out the library; is the library big or small? Do they have a lot of resources for study?
• Look at the campus
• Talk with students, are they friendly? Did they help you and answer your questions?
• Take a trip around the community and see what it is like
• Check out the dorms, are they comfortable.
• Talk to staff within different areas of the school, are they friendly? Do they answer your questions?
• Check out the financial aid office
• Check out the student union, maybe the newspaper or theater if you are interested in those activities
• If you think you are going to need a job while in school then you should check to see what kinds of jobs are posted.
• Did you find places that you would like to hang out with other students and friends?
• What kind of sports are on campus? If that is of interest to you.

While on campus look around and check everything you can out. This will help you when it comes time to make decisions on which colleges to apply to in the future.

Questions you should ask on a Campus Visit:

I am sure there are many questions about a campus that may be going through your mind and you should ask as many as you possible can so that you get a good understanding about the campus.

• Can you tell me a little about the school?
• How many students are there? How many live on campus?
• What kind of activities and services are available for students?
• Ask students what they like about the school? Then ask them what they dislike?
• Ask students how easy it is to get the classes you want to register for
• Ask students what is there to do for entertainment, social activates and fun to relax
• Ask about the cost of attending the school
• Ask about living off campus and what they recommend
• Ask if there is someone to give you a tour of the campus
• Ask about the jobs available to students
• Ask if you can meet with some teachers who would be teaching you’re major.
• Where do freshman live?

There are thousands of questions you can ask. Don’t be afraid to ask.
