Hi, folks, can the word "torm" be deemed as "proper" or "normal" in this game?

Sorry guys, I have a disagreement.
I don't see why a fictional animal cannot be a common noun. A torm is not really a name, but what such a creature is called. You can give such names as Wuga, Gofo, Maxo,...etc to various torm(pl.) just as you do to dogs or horses, but "torm" is not a specific name. Whether a noun is a proper noun or a common noun does not depend on how popular it is used, but on the way it is used. How often do you use such words as teja, tela, tula, kudo, muda,...? But they are all common nouns. Secondly, Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" story or game has been quite popular in the Western world. Now let's see the way the noun 'torm' is used (from Answers.com): A torm is a cross between a horse-sized cat and a lizard, it has bronze scales, six-clawed feet that can grip stones in a road, and three eyes. The torm is the most intelligent of the Seanchan creatures, being well above that of a very bright dog, and can come close to human levels in certain areas of problem solving, such as maze tests. As riding animals their speed and endurance are superior to that of a horse, but they are particular about their riders. Once it has found its rider, the torm will not allow another to mount. If its rider dies, it takes some time to get a torm to accept another. You can see clearly that 'torm' is used as a common noun. You will also observe that the noun 'torm' is not capitalized as a proper noun should be. The way it is described is quite similar to a kylin (麒麟), a fictional Chinese unicorn, though 'kylin' is not well known to the Western world. If you guys are so insistent to reject 'torm', I don't mind providing a replacement word.

It interests me to find out if the portmanteau word 'mermaid' is acceptable for a word-game? If it does, I think "torm" is also an acceptable word. My humble opinion. Cheers.
![]() http://www.answers.com/the%20merlion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merlion My apologies. It should be the portmanteau word 'merlion' instead. Thanks.

Basically words made up in games or novels should not be accepted, or there would be too many for people to choose from. However some of those words might be popularized through constant use and torm seems to fall into this category. So I would say torm is acceptable in this game.
