常常看到副詞可放在前頭,中間,末尾. 請問有什麼差別?

許多同學認為副詞只能放在句尾，其實除了句尾之外，副詞還可以放在其他很多的地方；也就是說副詞的位置不同，所強調修飾的字就不同。

〔分別〕想一想，下面的句子意思有差別嗎？

1.
The teacher and students really have good rapport.
( really 用來修飾動詞 have)

The teacher and students have really good rapport.
( really 用來修飾形容詞 good)

2.
Paula really had a great time at her birthday party.
( really 用來修飾動詞 have)

Paula had a really great time at her birthday party.
( really 用來修飾形容詞 great)

3.
Two hundred people died in the earthquake nearly.
＊（不正確）

Nearly two hundred people died in the earthquake.
（nearly 用來修飾 two hundred people）

He nearly died in the earthquake.
（nearly 用來修飾 died）

4.
She takes a bus to school usually. (怪怪的)

She usually takes a bus to school.
（頻率副詞放在修飾動詞之前）

〔說明〕副詞的到底應該要放在哪裡呢？

1. 副詞的正確位置的應該是盡量接近修飾字的位置：如果修飾動詞，則靠近動詞，如修飾形容詞，則靠近形容詞。特別強調的字可放句首，不過並不多見。

2. 頻率副詞如 always、 usually 、often 多用來修飾動詞，應該放在動詞前，be動詞後面，例如 He often comes to school late 以及 He is often late for school。

1. 副詞可用於修飾動詞(含分詞與不定詞)、形容詞、或別的副詞, 通常要修飾哪個就放在其前面(be動詞則在其後面).
2. 副詞放在句尾是修飾該句(或子句)的主動詞, 但更優先修飾接近它的形容詞、不定詞、其他副詞、分詞與不定詞、獨立片語等.
3. 副詞放在句首是強調其本身並修飾該句(或子句)的主動詞, 但更優先修飾接近它的形容詞、不定詞、其他副詞、分詞與不定詞、獨立片語等.

以上所提是大致的原則, 未必是完整無例外.

[多數副詞的位置]:-

1a) 多數副詞都放在所修飾動詞後面
e.g. It's raining HARD.
e.g. They lived HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
e.g. She moved about GRACEFULLY.
e.g. He behaves NATURALLY.
1b) 或句末(賓語或狀語後面)
e.g. He gave her the money RELUCTANTLY.
e.g. He looked at me SUSPICIOUSLY.
e.g. She doesn't work here NOW.

2) 有時放在主語和動詞之間, 這時有三種情況
(a) 賓語較長時, 副詞常常提前(以免副詞離動詞太遠)

e.g. They SECRETLY decided to leave the town.
e.g. The firemen BRAVELY went into the burning house.
(b) 有些說明性格或智力的副詞, 常可放在動詞前面

e.g. He GENEROUSLY paid for us all.
e.g. He KINDLY waited for me.
e.g. They WARMLY welcomed us at the door.
(c) 有些副詞, 如suddenly, soon, nearly, surely, almost, just, still, really等, 常可放在動詞前面:
e.g. I ALMOST forgot about the whole thing.
e.g. She SUDDENLY fell ill.
e.g. He NEARLY died of starvation.
e.g. I STILL don't understand.

3a) 有些副詞常放在助動詞和主要動詞之間
e.g. I'm STILL waiting for the answer.
e.g. I've JUST returned from Shanghai.
e.g. She's ALREADY gone home.
3b) 或主語和表語之間
e.g. The meeting is JUST over.
e.g. She is STILL weak after her long illness.
e.g. Then she was ALREADY out of his mind.

4) 有些副詞為了强調可放在句首
e.g. INDOORS it was nice and warm.
e.g. RECENTLY I haven't been feeling very well.
e.g. INDEED the note has disappointed me.
e.g. REALLY, it needs watering.
e.g. APPARENTLY, he knew the town well.

1) 頻度副詞通常放在下面三個位置
(a) 放在動詞前面

(b) 放在助動詞後面(主要動詞前面)
e.g. He can NEVER understand that.

(c) 如句子裏有系動詞be, 則通常放在be後面

2) 頻度副詞有時可放在其他位置
(a) 為了强調可放在句首
e.g. ALWAYS, we went on foot.
e.g. OCCASIONALLY he came to see us.
e.g. OFTEN I didn't see her until the evening.
e.g. GENERALLY she remained in on weekdays.
e.g. SOMETIMES we're busy and SOMETIMES we're not.
(b) 有時為了強調, 可放在情態動詞、助動詞及動詞be前面
e.g. We USUALLY don't get up until nine on Sundays.
e.g. He NEVER would go to a doctor, he didn't believe in him.
e.g. She HARDLY ever has met him.
e.g. I NEVER can remember telephone numbers.

1) 疑問副詞, 連接副詞和關係副詞通常都在句子或從句開頭
e.g. HOW are things going?
e.g. That's HOW I look at it.
e.g. The first thing is to find out WHERE she is.
e.g. We have reached a point WHERE a change is needed.
e.g. HERE are the reasons why we do it.

2a) 句子副詞一般放在句首
e.g. MAYBE he would come round yet.
e.g. ACTUALLY, she had altered much less than I.
e.g. FORTUNATELY, he found the money he'd lost.
e.g. SURELY you'll stay for dinner.
2b) 有時也可放在其他位置

4) 有些副詞位置很靈活, 如only和even, 可放在與它們意思最密切的詞之前

e.g. There were ONLY five girls in our class.
(EVEN)
e.g. EVEN my father doesn't know this word.
