Studying In the United States

What you should know about Community Colleges

When an international student starts looking into studying in the United States he or she will learn there are many different types of schools within the United States. Right now I am going to tell you a little about Community Colleges, I know your thinking what is a community college and why should I decide to go there? Well a community college may not be what you think it is, there are very good reasons to go to a community college as your first step into college. Community Colleges provide students a good economical and academic reason for selecting them to spend their first two years of study within the United States. When you graduate with your selected degree and major you can then transfer to a four year college or university and those credits you earned will apply toward your bachelor’s degree. Community Colleges are also great for those students that are not yet sure what they want to major in college or what career they wish to pursue, in a community college you can explore what many of the subjects and majors that interest you, to determine if it is the right direction for you during your 2 years in community college.

Once you have looked into what a community college can offer you, you will find that they offer student a very broad area of study and classes you may wish to take; these classes cover many different subjects that may lead you in the right direction of your major. When enrolled in a community college you are required to meet all the required classes for your degree such as Humanities, Social Science Math, English and Social Science plus you may pursue elective courses such as Business Administration, Science, Math, Computer Science and many more subjects. So you can see why a community college maybe a good choice while you are finalizing what you wish to major in. When you finish at the community college you have earned an Associate of Arts degree or Associate of Business Administration, Associate of Science, Associate of Nursing, Associate of Engineering or a Associate degree in many other fields of study.

There are some students that just want to go to a community college that specializes in career classes that tea a student what he or she wishes to learn within these two years. They may go on to a university or they may just decide that they want to go out and work with the hands on training they were provided at the community college.

There are also many other benefits of going to a community college like the English Language programs at many of the community colleges in the United States. Students that need to improve their English language proficiency can attend courses that are only a few weeks long to courses in English that will last several semesters. These English classes can do a lot for the student that would like to improve their English

There is one reason that I like the most about community colleges and that is the cost to take classes there are much cheaper then those taken at a college or university. Which means you can save a lot of money during your time at the community college.

You will also find that community colleges are comfortable, less pressure, more friendly, and you can talk freely with the professors, teachers, faculty, staff without waiting days or weeks to talk to them, you can usually just ask if they have a few minutes and you will be surprised at how easy it is to approach anyone on campus and ask questions. You will also make friends among students because it is a smaller school and people get to know each other.

So if you think this might be something you’re interested in, talk to your educational consultant or counselor about the possibility. You will want to select the right community college that offers the program you wish to study. Remember that many community colleges offer programs designed for international students and the cost of going to a community college is less then a college or university.
