Greetings!

Cutebrowniebaobei will be in Taiwan from 5 Oct to 9 Oct 2007.

Would appreciate if you guys can give me some tips.. what are the things to take note of, where are the places worth visting.. what are the things that i can bring back to my hometown..

For example,

how's the weather going to be like during that 5 days' stay..

how's the hot spring at Sha Mao Mountain?

Where is the so called 'xiao ren guo'? Miniature world or whatever? Is it in Liu Fu Village? How do I travel there from Taipei?

We are planning for one day tour in TaiChung also.. so would like to know, where are the places worth visiting.. what are the famous food that we should try etc..

By the way, xiao ren guo is not in Liu Fu Village but close to Liu Fu Village.

Taichung's suncake(太陽餅)is famous. But it depents you like it or not. Below is an article about suncake.

A suncake (Traditional Chinese: 太陽餅; Pinyin: tàiyáng bĭng) is a popular Taiwanese dessert originally from the city of Taichung in Taiwan. It is made of flaky pastry with sweet fillings. They are normally packaged elaborately and meant to be given as gifts.

Many different pastry stores claim to be the "original" store that first produced suncakes. The pastries have become popular souvenirs for people visiting Taichung. In addition to the many stores that sell them, suncakes may also be purchased aboard trains passing through the Taichung area.

太陽餅是一種源起於台灣臺中市的點心，又被稱做酥餅，大甲酥餅是信徒製作、購買來敬神拜媽祖，是一種甜餡薄餅，內餡是麥芽糖，為臺中的名產之一，通常是盒裝作為特產禮物，消費者在知名的店家購買往往須先事先預訂，並在現場大排長龍領取。但除了在這些知名店家購買外，在臺中地區車站的特產店也可以買到太陽餅。

太陽餅的形狀近似圓形，沒有固定的大小，早期製作的比較大，人們食用前多會均分成四塊，而近年來則有較小的太陽餅出現，以方便拿取食用。太陽餅的餅皮易碎，食用時容易掉落；多半為直接食用配濃茶之茶點，也有置放餅在碗內，沖泡熱開水呈現粥樣吃喝。其包裝外盒也頗具特色，最早是由顏水龍先生所設計的向日葵圖案構成。


(命名由來)
太陽餅的發明人是魏清海，原本這是台灣人在喝茶時搭配吃的小點心，經過多次改良後才變成現在的樣子。最初被稱做麥芽餅，後來因某製作店家之名而改稱太陽餅，但也有一種說法是因為形似日本國旗才被如此稱呼。

太陽餅這個名稱並未被申請註冊專利和商標，以致後來同業的店家皆可使用此名，在臺中，較著名的老店有：

太陽堂:單指林紹崧先生創立的太陽堂，是餅名的起源，也是打響「太陽餅」這個名號的源頭，創立時是由魏清海先生擔任製餅師父。其店內有顏水龍先生的著名作品「向日葵」。
阿明師老店:魏清海先生的義子林祺海先生和三子魏建三先生開的店，標榜的是「發明改良者」人的傳承。
元明商店:魏清海先生最早服務的店家再重開，標榜的是最早開始販賣這種「酥餅」店家的傳承。
此外，許多臺中的糕餅店亦宣稱他們是太陽餅的起源。不過，真正的老店位於臺中市自由路卻是無疑。

but i heard that taichung's sun biscuit is no. 1, after eating, i wun like to eat Sg's sun biscuit anymore.. haha..
