This should be one of the famous proverbs that even high school students here in Taiwan know. This means it's not healthy for someone to work all the time and never play. (Often used to exhort someone to stop working, or to justify why you have stopped working. You can substitute the name of the person you are addressing for Jack.)

ummmmm. I think I have done that for many, many years but then changed and started to enjoy life more. Then things changed and guess what? I am back to all work and no play again. What a drag. I hope that I can find that peace again, and have fun and enjoy life again. EastCoast

I like this proverb very much because i like to play and enjoy myself.Only when we learn to play can we study and work better.

There is a related English proverb that should also be kept in mind:

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All play and no work makes Jack a [dull] boy. I agree with you. How about revising dull to null? It means that all play and no work makes Jack a valueless, useless boy.
