SOT (Son of Turtle)
Guest_
How do you translate this phrase "龜兒子" into English according to the definition from the Chinese dictionary?

Is the translation "a brothel owner" correct? I am thinking another one.

Tim,

If this thread is inappropriately discussed, please delete it.

Thank you.

The following are the definitions from different Chinese dictionaries:

My translation would be as follows:

1. a brothel owner
2. the man who indulges his wife and daughter to have sexual relationships with men

Another two related terms for you guys.

龜公: Similar to 烏龜 or 龜孫子. In English it's called cuckold, but applied differntly. If somebody wears the horns, that means he is a cuckold. Some people also call this guy a head pimp or stable boss.

龜奴: Could be a pimp or just a guy who works in a brothel.

Tim,

Thank you so much for the information.

Would you explain why the cuckold wears the horns? Do you know the origin?

Thank you.

Is SOT widely used to represent Son of Turtle?

The word sot means a drunkard.
34 definitions of SOT are found at:
http://www.acronymfinder.com/af-query.asp?Acronym=SOT&p=dict

and 73 other definitions of SOT are found at:
http://www.acronymattic.com/results.aspx?q=SOT

but no definition as Son of Turtle is included.

It's natural you can't find it in the two acronym lists. This term just popped up not too long ago after some news event in Taiwan. It is not even following the pattern of idiomatic English. In idiomatic English, it should be either Son of a Turtle or Son of the Turtle.

Interesting.
So Turtle implies someone in a latest event, doesn't it? Can you enlighten us who the person should have been, Tim?

Is the rude idiom son of a gun a similar one?

For your reference:

When informed President Chen wouldn't stop over at Anchorage on his way back, a U.S. State Department official just said he knows it, a Broadcasting Corporation of China report from Washington said yesterday.

"We can't write a story with such a short comment," one reporter complained, the report said. He was told jokingly the Taiwan media could write volumes on just three words: "son of turtle."

One top-ranking official on Chen's entourage said the president would be "a son of a turtle," if he would stop over at Anchorage. Chen himself said he did not want to do so to defend the "dignity of the country."
