李壽全和張子石相識二十五年，當年李壽全在台中逢甲大學唸書，張子石開樂器行，兩人差九歲，卻因愛好音樂相知相惜，一度並肩在台中餐廳演唱，李壽全暱稱他stone。他畢業後，張子石也移民美國，發現肝癌後才回台就醫。

李壽全說，張子石在美寫下「張三的歌」，那時張離婚，在美顛沛流離，帶著兩個孩子流浪，歌詞反映了他的生活，「忘掉過去忘掉那地方，我們一起啟程去流浪」，但他始終覺得張子石赴美是個錯誤。

除了「張三的歌」，張子石出過四首歌曲，還譜詞作曲過「愛的感覺」，由娃娃唱紅。李壽全說，張子石非常有才華，可惜在美無發揮空間。「張三的歌」歷經數代詮釋，江淑娜、 陳昇、蔡琴都唱過。
李壽全當年詮釋歌詞，是把爸爸帶著單親兒子的心聲給唱出來，被電影「父子關係」當成主題曲，七十四年歌曲入圍金馬獎最佳電影主題曲，因歌詞簡單，曲調平易，流傳在ＫＴＶ迄今不墜。

今年四月四日張子石從美國寫信給李壽全，說四月底回台看病，李壽全說，他沒時間去探望，沒想到，再度接獲消息，他已撒手，他不知張的病情嚴重，張也怕麻煩朋友探視，不明講，沒想到，一信之後，天人永隔。
