[動名詞作介詞的賓語]

1) 有許多由介詞構成的成語動詞後, 可以跟動名詞作賓語:
e.g. She "insisted on" WRITING at once.
e.g. Robbie couldn't "keep from" LAUGHING.
e.g. The plant must "aim at" INCREASING production.
e.g. Please "refrain from" SMOKING during the performance.
e.g. She was "looking forward to" LEAVING the hospital wards.
e.g. He never "complained about" WORKING overtime.

2) 還有不少"be + 形容詞 + 介詞"的結構後, 也常可用動名詞作賓語:
e.g. "Are" you "interested in" GOING with us?
e.g. I "was afraid of" MAKING them uneasy.
e.g. He "wasn't keen on" BUYING a car.
e.g. I'"m tired of" THINKING about it.
e.g. She "is" awfully "good at" speaking French.
e.g. I'"m fed up with" TALKING to you.

3) 在"及物動詞 + 賓語 + 介詞"這類結構後, 也常可跟動名詞作賓語:
e.g. They "accused him of" PLAYING his radio too loudly.
e.g. He "charged them with" RECEIVING stolen goods.
e.g. They "suspected him of" BEING the thief.
e.g. "Thank you for" DOING this job for me.
e.g. "Keep that child from" YELLING.

Note: 在"How about"後也常用動名詞作賓語
e.g. "How about" COMING with us to the club?
e.g. "How about" PUTTING the sofa closer to the window?

4) 許多介詞可以跟動名詞構成狀語:
e.g. Peter waited a little "before MAKING up his mind".
e.g. "After STANDING in the queue for an hour", we got two tickets.
e.g. "On REACHING the city", he called up lester.
e.g. I don't blame you "for BEING cautious".

5) 還有一些由介詞構成的短語, 後面可跟動名詞作賓語:
e.g. "Instead of GOING to New York", we got off at Boston.
e.g. He is studying "with a view to GOING to university".
e.g. He was afraid to speak "for fear of MAKING errors".
e.g. I called "in the hope of FINDING her at home".

6) 有些介詞可以和動名詞構成定語:
e.g. He is good at the art "of MAKING friends".
e.g. I admired his skill "at DRIVING".
e.g. It's a device "for OPENING bottles".
e.g. I do not like her way "of TALKING".
e.g. What's the advantage "of USING nuclear power"?
e.g. He invented a new process "of DYEING".

Note: 間或介詞也可和動詞一道構成表語
e.g. I'm "for DOING nothing" till the police arrive.
e.g. I'm "in the habbit of READING the newspaper at breakfast".
e.g. Father was "against SELLING the property".
e.g. Talking to him was "like PLAYING on an exquisite violin".
