Futari,
Your "disc" doesn't follow "desk" due to changing two letters. I believe you meant "disk", right?

Hello Glot and Futari

I do not have a Century Dictionary to refer. My dictionaries say that both 'i-wis' and 'y-wis' are hypenated words. Please clarify.

Thanks.

Hi, Geo,
You can easily consult dictionary.com for both their unhyphenated and hyphenated versions.

When I made the entry of 'iwis', I thought it was hard for others to make a successive entry to it, but I forgot 'iwis' had a variant form 'ywis' that Futari took up rapidly. I guess Futari can therefore be declared the winner now.

Hi Glot

I've got it. Thanks.

As expected, Futari emerges the winner. Congrats Futari

And thanks to all those who participated. It was great fun and educational.

Cheers.

To Glotynn, Geoette, and dear all

How about leaving it as an open-end question or game, allowing brighter ones who might come up someday with a solution word to start the ball rolling again?
(Would you guys consider "ywys" as one of such words?)

Hello 美人

Wordnavigator.com confirms that the result of changing one of the letters in the word 'ywis' is 'iwis' which Guru Glot had used (see link below).

Even if the word 'ywys' is entered, there aren't any words, according to 'wordnavigator.com' that can follow it.
(Maybe the Century has! I don't know.)

http://wordnavigator.com/change-letter/ywis/

Cheers.

I don't want the game to end now, so I asked the OED for help. Ywit is a variant of iwit and iwit can be found from the Century Dictionary.

The following two links also help.
