Hi Geo,

From the link you provided, 'Nasr' is the name of an idol worshipped by the people in the days of Nuh (Noah). It's a proper noun. Please pick another word. Thanks.

Besides, we may need to wait a bit for Futari's clarification about the word "birn".

There you go, Glotynn.

"birn"
1) = A stem of dry heather; specifically, one of the stems of burnt heath which remain after the smaller twigs have been consumed, as in moor-burning.

2) = That part of an instrument of the clarinet class into which mouthpiece fits: so called from its shape.

Hello Glot

I have attached excerpts of an article in respect of the word ‘nasr’. The article seems to suggest that ‘nasr’ is a “FALSE GOD” represented by a bird (eagle, vulture or falcon). Men has sought to worship powers of nature, just like the Hindus worshipping serpents and other creatures.

Please let the moderator decide if ‘nasr’ is acceptable for the game, otherwise I will provide a replacement word. The link is also attached herewith.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/pag/pip.htm

Here goes …

QUOTE

3. The names of the five false gods and the symbols under which they were represented were as follows:

Pagan god Shape Quality represented
1. Wadd Man Manly Power.
2. Suwâ Woman Mutability, Beauty.
3. Yagûth Lion (or Bull) Brute Strength.
4. Ya`ûq Horse Swiftness.
5. Nasr Eagle, Vulture, Sharp Sight, Insight

10. These cross-currents and mixtures of nature-worship, astral-worship, hero-worship, worship of abstract qualities, etc., resulted in a medley of debasing superstitions which are summed up in the five names, Wadd, Suwâ`, Yagûth, Ya`ûq, and Nasr, as noted in paragraph 3 above. The time of Noah is taken to be the peak of superstition and false worship, and the most ancient cults may thus be symbolically brought under these heads. If Wadd and Suwâ` represented Man and Woman, they might well represent the astral-worship of the moon and the sun, or the sun and the moon, or they might represent human self-glorification, the worship of Self as against God, or they might represent the worship of Manly Power and Female Beauty, or other abstract qualities of that kind. On the other hand, it is possible that the worship of Jupiter and Venus itself got mixed up with the worship of the sun-moon pair. One pair being identified with another pair in a Septet, the number seven was reduced to five, and the five (itself a mystic number) might itself represent the seven planets as then worshipped. Further, it may be that Nasr (the vulture, falcon, hawk, or eagle, the Egyptian Horus) also represents a solar myth, mixed up with the cult of the planets. These cross-currents of astro-mythological mixtures of cults are well-known to students of ancient popular religions. If the five names, from another angle of vision, represent qualities, the Wadd-Suwâ` pair (Sun-Moon, Jupiter-Venus) would represent manly power and womanly beauty or mutability respectively, and the three remaining ones (paragraph 3) might represent Brute Strength, like that of a Bull or a Lion; Swiftness like that of a Horse or sharpness (of sight or intelligence) like that of a vulture, hawk, or eagle.

Hi Geo,
From the list of pagan gods above, we can see that Wadd, Suwâ, Yagûth, Ya'ûq, and Nasr are the names (proper nouns), whereas in the descriptions, Man/Woman/Beauty/Lion/Horse/Eagle/Vulture etc. are ordinary nouns. An example in Chinese "回祿之災": 回祿 is a name (proper noun), while 火神 (fire god) is an ordinary noun.

A moderator is in no position to decide/judge such things because the moderators are assigned to keep/help the forums moving smoothly and they need not be the supreme experts in the relevant fields. I happen to be one; Kathy is, too. In fact, the rules of the game are made known to all players, and it's not too difficult to know what a proper noun is. Trust you can agree on this.
Cheers!
