Geo, Alps is the name of a mountain system not acceptable to the game, unless you can prove otherwise.

Hello Glot

'Alps', as I understand it, is a general term for high mountains, and is divided into east and west. I have attached two links that I trust are self-explanatory. Let me know otherwise and I shall have the word changed.

Cheers

p.s.

Btw, 'arts' as a noun is plural. As an adjective, it is not. For example ... arts faculty; beaux arts; graphic arts, industrial arts, language arts, liberal arts and master of arts etc.

My humble opinion, it maybe incorrect,

Main Entry: alp
Pronunciation: \ˈalp\
Function: noun
Etymology: back-formation from Alps, mountain system of Europe
Date: 15th century
1 : a high rugged mountain
2 : something suggesting an alp in height, size, or ruggedness

The word 'alp' was generated from the name 'Alps', denoting a single high mountain, and 'alps' is its plural. The other mountain systems named after the Swiss Alps are still names. So IMHO, 'alps' is hardly deemed acceptable to the game.

All the examples you provided here are nouns and not adjectives. Can you provide a source where "arts" is listed as an independent word? For example, 'sports' is an independent word from 'sport'; 'bananas' is so from 'banana', too.

The arts is a broad subdivision of culture, composed of many expressive disciplines. In modern usage, it is a term broader than "art", which usually means the visual arts (comprising both fine art, decorative art, and crafts). The arts encompasses visual arts, performing arts, language arts, and culinary arts. Many artistic disciplines involve aspects of the various arts, so the definitions of these terms overlap to some degree.

Would it be viewed as a proper noun then?
Anyway, I've changed my "arts" to "army" already.

Hey guys. I will provide a replacement word for “alps”. However, the only word available to me after “alas” is “alts” in order that Lady Futari's “alms” stands. I don't have the link for its definition, but it may be found in the Merriam-Webster.

This failing, I am afraid I will have to replace the word with “anas” http://www.answers.com/topic/anas-1, and for the subsequent words”alms”, “arms” and “army” to be changed.

I apologize for the mess created and for holding up the game.

I'm not sure if 'alts' has a meaning (acceptable to this game) in Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary to which I have no access. In ordinary dictionaries, 'alts' is simply the plural of 'alt'. Can you help, Tim?

Besides, Tim, is a genus title, such as 'Anas', normally regarded as a proper noun? There have been one or two genus titles used in this game before. Thanks.

No worry, geoette. I have a "contingency plan" in mind. Let's wait for Tim's advice first.

Alts is simply the plural form in unabridged dictionaries as well. As to Anas, it is usually capitalized as a genus name, but from previous inclusions of genus names, it should be allowed as well.

Thanks, Tim.
So guys, shall we rule out the word 'alts'?
Hi Futari, I can now agree with you on 'arts' since it carries further meaning than the plural of 'art'. Would you indicate us your 'contingency plan'? Thanks.

As to 'anas', Geo, I used it already in line 374, so you need to pick another word, ok? You and Futari have priority to submit successive entries by revising the lines 376~379 alternately. Thanks and sorry for my being a fault finder.

361. glotynn - sess, vant, loke, deve
362. geoette - zess, vane, loge, deke
363. glotynn - gess, vann, logo, dyke
364. futari - goss, vain, logh, doke
365. geoette - hoss, vail, hogh, dore
366. futari - ross, veil, high, dorn
367. geoette - soss, ceil, nigh, lorn
368. futari - sous, weil, sigh, morn
369. geoette - snus, deil, tigh, sorn
370. futari - onus, leil, tige, worn
371. Menquart - opus, leal, tike, woon
372. futari - apus, peal, like, toon
373. geoette - anus, feal, lite, soon
374. glotynn - anas, feat, dite, moon
375. futari - alas, feet, date, mool
376. geoette - (alts), geet, sate, cool
377. futari - (alms), geer, mate, pool

Thanks Lady Futari. I suppose you already have a word in mind to follow 'alas' so as to enable those subsequent words to stand.

If my assumption is wrong, then will either one of you please replace, on my behalf, that "alps/alts" slot with the word "alal" http://www.answers.com/topic/alal, as I shall be leaving for the Bintang Island Resort in an hour's time for R&R. I just do not want to hold up the game any further.

Glot, sorry I didn't notice that "anas" was there. Also, it is a matter of fair practice. You are for sure NOT a 'fault finder'.

And Tim, your "eat humble pie" idiom does appear timely. I do apologize.

Thanks alot fellas! Ciao.

I envy you! You are having a beach and a private jacuzzi?!
I've read an article on that resort island several years ago and have been longing for a vacation there since then.
