"Omfs" as shown in the link has 27 ups and 7 downs.

The first definition of the word says: short for "Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery" usually used by oral surgeons. It doesn't say it is an acronym nor does it say it is an abbreviation.

Geo, maybe I shouldn't call it an acronym. I meant "the short". May I draw your attention to the following:
- IMHO (imho) is the short of "in my humble opinion", but 'IMHO' is not a WORD acceptable to the game.
- FWIW (fwiw) is the short of "for what it's worth", but 'FWIW' is not a WORD acceptable to the game.
- OTOH (otoh) is the short of "on the other hand", but 'OTOH' is not an English word.
- AFAIK is the short for "as far as I know", but 'AFAIK' is not an English word.
- OMFS (omfs) is the short of "Oral and MaxilloFacial Surgery", but how would you think 'OMFS' is an English word?


However, another way of short is ok; for a long word, people may shorten it by its first few letters, e.g. 'spec' for 'specification' only if it is widely recognizable. That's the short by "a short vs. a word", and not by "a short vs. a phrase".
