Hm, actually your first variant was correct… I myself would say “Teresa Teng has always given me a …”, as no matter if she died (grammatically), she still has the same effect on you. But we have only 3 tenses in my mother tongue, and I only know of two more, but those disappeared centuries ago…:-O
